Pagemaster's Corner: Procedures
We are working on a way to make Infodome available to you via a Windows interface. In the meantime, you'll need to use FTP (or Fetch if you are a Macintosh user). After you FTP your documents to Dometest, you'll use the Selectfiles procedure to transfer it to Infodome.
Instructions for FTP
You can read full instructions for FTP here. Brief instructions follow:
-
Open WS-FTP
-
The first time you do this:
- Type "dometest" into Profile Name
- Type "dometest.sdsu.edu" into Host Name/Address
- Type your user name into User ID
- Type your password into Password
- Click on the Setup tab and type /home/www/dometest/htdocs into Initial Remote Site Folder
- Type c:\My Documents into the Initial Local Folder
- Click OK
- If you have already done the above:
- Select Dometest from Profile Name
- Enter your username and password and click OK
- To the left of the screen, navigate to a folder where you store HTML documents (I suggest a folder called webstuff in my documents.
- To the right of the screen, navigate to the file that you want to work on.
- Transfer the file from Dometest to your folder by clicking the <-- button.
- Edit your document and save it
- Transfer the file back using the --> button
- Check your work on Dometest (http://dometest.sdsu.edu) and, if it looks good, move to the Selectfiles step.
- Notes:
- PDF files can be put on Dometest, but rather than use the Selectfiles process, you must email infosys@library.sdsu.edu to have them transferred to Infodome
- Images and CGI scripts may not be put on Dometest except by the Webmaster. Email infosys@library.sdsu.edu for this.
Instructions for Selectfiles
You can read full instructions for using Selectfiles here. Brief instructions follow:
- When editing your HTML code, include a comment with a "secret code" at the top of the body of your page, as such:
<!-- LSH080101 --> (I use my initials and the date; you can use whatever you want, but remember that spaces will not be honored)
- Go to the Selectfiles website at: http://dometest.sdsu.edu/selectfiles/
- Enter your username, the directory of the file you want uploaded, and your secret code
- click Search
- If any files are found that you do not want uploaded, deselect them by clicking on the box to the left of each file name
- Click Update Sendfile
- If the list you see on the next page is correct, click Save & Return. If not, click change and make any necessary changes.
